UW Bothell, UW Tacoma & Transfer Students
HIHIM is a program-specific admission major. If you're a transfer student, including current or previous students at UW Bothell and UW Tacoma who have not earned a degree, you must apply to both the University of Washington and to the HIHIM program. We recommend that you start your applications early; all materials must be submitted by the application deadlines.
Note: Carefully follow these instructions. Don't use the general UW transfer application on the UW Office of Admissions website to apply to the HIHIM program.
Application Deadlines
The application deadline for early acceptance is February 15 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The application deadline for general acceptance is May 15 at 11:59 p.m PT. Applications must be submitted by the deadline to be considered for that application period.
Minimum Admission Requirements
- Completed a minimum of 90 transferable quarter credits from a regionally accredited college or university by February 15 or May 15 of the year you plan to apply (Students applying to the UW with more than 40 transferable credits don't need to meet the College Academic Distribution Requirements [CADR] before being admitted to the UW.)
- Earned a grade of 2.0 or higher in each prerequisite course
- Applicants with the following scores will receive points during review:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in all transferable courses
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in all prerequisite courses
Prerequisite Courses
Applicants to the HIHIM program must complete prerequisite courses in two subjects:
- Statistics (4–5 credits)
- Human anatomy and physiology (with lab preferred; 6 credits)
Students with prerequisites in progress may still apply, but students with completed prerequisites will have priority consideration.
HIHIM Technology Requirements
Students in the HIMIM program are required to have a basic knowledge of computers and standard productivity software, information retrieval skills and electronic communication skills. See our HIHIM Technology & Computer Proficiency Requirements to learn more.
Before You Apply
Step One: Attend an Information Session
We recommend students interested in the Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics & Information Management (HIHIM) program attend an information session. Visit the Information Session page to sign up for a session.
Step Two: Submit Your Unofficial Transcript(s) for Review
We recommend you have an adviser review your unofficial transcripts so you know which requirements you've completed prior to applying to the program. Email hihim@uw.edu a PDF of your unofficial transcript from all institutions you've attended in the past with “Transcript Review” as the subject. An adviser will review your credits and respond with a preliminary evaluation.
